I appreciate how taking these first steps to find a therapist for yourself or your child can feel vulnerable, so I applaud your courage. I believe everyone has the potential to discover and form new insights, emotional awareness, behaviors, and personal solutions to feel their best and achieve their goals. I also believe in honoring the uniqueness of each person and their stories and strive to meet each client at their level of readiness with warmth and acceptance.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist. I have 18 years experience working as a counselor with various populations. I enjoy working with a wide variety of ages and stages of life. I see kids as young as three, teen girls, college women, and adult women and love the variety this brings to my days! I am a mom of four fun and busy kids ranging from high school to college age. I love kids and have been referred to as a "child whisperer" on more than one occasion. I think teen girls are fun, cool, and quirky in wondrous ways, and I have great empathy and interest in supporting women who are juggling it ALL.
In addition to traditional talk therapy, I am excited to have added a newer form of therapy called Accelerated Resolution Therapy, or ART Therapy to my private practice. ART uses a combination of creative visualization, somatic awareness, and eye movements to quickly and gently transform the way you remember and respond to past experiences so you are no longer triggered or troubled by symptoms. ART is different than EMDR and other therapies in that it does not require you to talk about your traumatic memories, and many people achieve resolution within 1 or 2 sessions. ART is great for people who do not want to be in therapy long term, or as an add-on to talk therapy you may be receiving to help you move through those difficult memories more quickly.
I have sought my own self-care and growth as a client of both talk therapy and ART therapy and get excited and inspired to think of helping others in the way these forms of therapy have helped me grow and achieve my goals. Research has shown that the relationship between client and therapist is the best predictor of successful outcomes in therapy. In addition, staying current on and implementing research-based practices is necessary for effective therapy. My commitment is to fully invest in building a trustworthy, enjoyable, confidential relationship, while customizing a therapeutic experience relying on evidence-based practices as we partner in your child's or your journey of growth, healing, and the fulfillment of goals.
